Everquest - the game that started it all

Everquest - the game that started it all

I'm an avid gamer. I've been playing MMO (massive multi-player online) games with persistent worlds on and off since late 2001 with a few other games of different types before that. My first MMO was Everquest (EQ).

In a persistent world game, the game world continues on whether or not you are playing, there is no "pause" button. The world and its adventures don't revolve solely around your character. The world can be changed by the actions of other players or updates from the development/design team whether or not your character(s) are involved. Games that have a "map" for an activity, often timed, that is only available when you (or a group) enters and is closed when you leave or the time runs out is an instanced world (most first-person shooters are in this category). Most single-player games, even if they have a huge world, will allow you to pause the world at will and only change by actions relating to your character.

Multi-player games allow interaction between different players, massive multi-player online games do so on a global scale. Truly global. I have gamer friends that I have interacted with in-game, on several continents. In the past, while living on the west coast of North American, I played with people in Norway, Finland, South Africa, North and South America, Australia, and Japan. Currently, I have a weekly group with a couple Fins though the others I regularly group with are mostly in the US (I am currently in Canada on the west coast). It's also a good way to be social while social distancing *laugh*

I played Everquest for a few years, then started playing Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) in 2003 before moving to Everquest 2 (EQ2) when it launched in 2004. After playing EQ2 for years I tried a few other MMOGs for a month or two, Vanguard, DC Universe Online, Lord of the Rings Online, and even dipped my toes into World of Warcraft but kept returning to EQ2 until my interest there waned and my available time to play was subverted by other interests. I did play also play Elder Scrolls Online at its launch and then a bit later before once again returning to Everquest, where I started. I'm even back in one of my earliest guilds and the one which was my EQ home the longest. I also have a character in an associated guild of which I was also a member way back when.

So, why this blog bit? Occasionally, I like to do a bit of pontificate rambling in a semi-journal form. But, the real impetus was getting bit by the decorating bug in my current game, Everquest, and discovered how little information there is online about the available housing items. Being used to the almost overabundance of information for EQ2 on various fan sites and wanting to see things side by side without having to go back and forth between in-game vendors, I wanted to have a place to store screenshots of the furniture items and why not share them with others. *grin*

NOTE: All pictures of the individual furniture items are screenshots of the preview window with limited information on how they can be placed or resized. I don't have unlimited plat or other currency nor do I have unlimited time (which is also why I'm using a blog format for the furniture gallery that's really not the best format, just somewhat faster).

I just woke up like this in Plane of Knowledge, honest!
